The Need For Speed

|Need For Speed is a large series of racing games developed by Electronic Arts for almost every console of the 32bit era. And the series keeps going even today with multiple titles. This Need For Speed game was created in 1994 for the 3DO, Playstation and Sega Saturn video game consoles.|
STORY / GAMEPLAY
Racing games do not actually have any story to tell but they share on thing in common: To win each race! The Need For Speed is a greatly done racing game in which you can select your favorite super-car among some great automobile manufacturers like Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari, Chevrolet, Toyota and Viper. Your goal is to drive through each track competing with other super-car drivers, watching for the incoming traffic and finally become the winner. You also have the option to choose nighttime or daytime races, but in both cases you must always be wary of the Police. The Police sends patrol cars to seek anyone who exceeds the speed limits. Since you have to drive as fast as you can, the Police scanner will spot you and an APB will initiate, until they stop you. The gameplay is absolutely fun and, fortunately, the difficulty level rises in a gradual manner. Therefore you'll have a decent amount of time to learn how to control your fast vehicle.
GRAPHICS / SOUND
The 3DO version's visuals are stunning, with hundreds of colors on screen, great speed and flawless animation. Apart from the two different third person cameras, there is also a dashboard camera available and the details shown from this perspective are really impressive (i.e. the dashboard of the car, the speedometer's real-time function and more). The game's sound is fully sampled and includes all the necessary "racing" sound effects plus some cool, CD quality, music scores. Overall, The Need For Speed is probably the best racing game on the 3DO's games library.
