Developed by Sensible Software and first released for Amiga and Atari ST computers in 1992 as well as for the PC, it featured a zoomed-out bird's-eye view (most games until then such as the famous Kick Off used a closer top-down or side view), editable national, club and custom teams and gameplay utilizing a relatively simple and user-friendly control scheme. A trademark of this game was the use of tiny cartoonish players allowing to see large playable area of the field, giving the game a great arcade feeling! The International Edition, reviewed here, is a slightly improved version of the original version, including slight gameplay adjustments, World Cup tournament and on-screen referees and was released alongside the 1994 World Cup. The Sensible Soccer series were also released on Amiga, Amiga CD32, DOS, Atari ST, SNES, Game Boy, Mega Drive/Genesis, Atari Jaguar, Sega CD, Sega Game Gear, Sega Master System, Acorn Archimedes and XBOX!
The graphics although tiny, are great full of humor and incredibly smooth and fast action! That was what made this game popular! The sound is also good featuring digitized voices of the crowds and nice tunes at the game menus.
