Robocod (or as fully titled, James Pond II: Codename RoboCod), is the sequel to James Pond game (1990), now with enhanced visuals and greater fun! One of the best platformers of its kind initially released on Amiga, ST/STE (in 1991) and later on a variety of platforms, including the Commodore 64, PC, Sega Game Gear (1993), Sega Mega Drive/Genesis (1991), Sega Master System (1993), Nintendo SNES, Nintendo GBA, PlayStation and more!
 
Review
RobocodEvil Dr Maybe, is scheming to destroy every game in the World by planting his deadly penguin bombs! He'll succeed too, unless James (our little fish-Bond hero) steps in! He must dive to the rescue as Robocod, dogding speeding bullets, haungry cars, scalling walls of danger and fiercely filleting killer caterpillars in 8 amazing levels! Be noted, each level has a huge boss to encounter too!
Equipped with a high-tech robot suit, it enables him to expand his torso to preposterous lengths of height! This comes in extremely handy during gameplay as very often you have to reach ledges and grip on with your ... fishy fingers!
Find loads of power-ups too. Hostile creatures lurk in these levels, and they come in many forms. There are no weapons in the game, so James must jump on them to defeat them. The whole action takes place in rooms fully decorated with huge toys, candies etc.
Gameplay differs heavily from the original. This game is a conventional platformer, with James Pond moving on land and jumping without the aid or need for water. There are no missions; instead, Pond must find an exit sign in each level (accessible through doors into a building in the Overworld).
Controls feel fast and very responsive too. Due to its great visuals, catchy sounds and fun to play with, it's a must to play on the Game Gear!

The Game Gear visuals are stunning, very colorful while the action is fast and smooth! Most of the original details are also found here and limited (cropped) by the screen size of the portable. It also feels fasts and controls are very responsive too. It is probably one of the very best games in terms of graphics and gameplay for the portable Game Gear!
The sound is very good, including the original in-game tunes as well as many SFX (but not sampled). The introductory tune at the main menu is missing though due to the limited cartridge memory size.
