This is a horizontally scrolling arcade game released by Ocean based on the 1989 film of the same name. It was released in 1989 for the Amiga, Atari ST, PC (MS-DOS), Amstrad CPC, Amstrad CPC+, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum.
Story/Gameplay: Batman must save Gotham City from The Joker. The storyline is based on the 1989 movie, featuring 5 levels of great platform action. The game starts at the Axis chemical plant, were Mr Jack Napier became the monster he is... the Joker! Hunt down Napier and fight with his deadly gang in order to success to the next level. Use your fists, kicks, Batarangs and Bat-rope in order to survive. At the second level, Joker is chasing you and has to escape to Batcave using your Batmobile. You should Avoid deadly traps such as police road blocks, incoming traffic other, and believe me is not easy as the gameplay gets frustrating here (hard to control the beast...). There is also a third stage offering mastermind puzzle gameplay.
Graphics/Sound: The graphics are great on the C64 version with plenty of detail using proper colors (this time). Sprites are bigger and move smoother when compared to the CPC (and ZX, MSX) versions. The CPC version is superior terms of number of colors being used. In general, technically the game looks better on the C64 compared to the CPC, ZX and MSX versions and even compared to the ... CPC+ too! The last looks like a direct port from the old CPC hardware, with some re-touches such as a bigger gameplay area and some more proper colors taken from its extended palette (but still limited to 16, although it could handle 16 for backgrounds and 16 for hardware sprites!). Anyway, as far as the sound the Commodore version offers a VERY noticeable menu tune and some excellent in-game music, thanks to its custom SID sound generator chip (no SFX though)!
