A famous side-scrolling action game originally released for the arcades in 1987 by Taito and later ported to various 8/16 bits home platforms by Imagine Software.
Rastan, a barbarian warrior is on a quest to find and slay a dragon. Rastan must fight hordes of enemy monsters based on mythical creatures such as chimeras and harpies. Your lives are limited while your health bar will decrease easily as long as you come in direct contact with enemies or their firing. The game consists of six levels, each consisting of three areas. There are several bonuses and jewels to collect (such as potion bottles that will restore or decrease your health) and also several weapons and power-ups which will be equipped only for a limited time. Gameplay scrolls all over the place as you climb up and down ropes, prance over pits of fire and explore underground caverns. Just watch out for flying limbs!
Graphics are fine here, quite close to the original (arcade) version. The Apple IIGS version offers up to 32-colored screens. Sprites move very smooth in all eight-directions and the action is fast. Especially the outdoor scenes are fine, featuring broad landscapes with changing sunlight effects with detail! Sound is great two featuring the original (arcade) music and several digitized sound FX.
